Pola (Polina) Bakhtina

An award-winning interdisciplinary theatre artist working across opera, ballet, contemporary dance, and dramatic theatre. Known for an integral visual dramaturgy, author-driven approach to space and costume, and complex spatial and technological solutions across contemporary and immersive forms.

Collaborated with internationally recognized directors and choreographers within major institutional and independent contexts.

Alongside theatre projects, works with publishers internationally, developing artist’s books and illustration projects as a cross media extension of  visual dramaturgy into printed forms.

Curator of the postgraduate Scenography course at the British Higher School of Art and Design. Lecturer and tutor for international professional platforms including OISTAT and V-A-C Foundation.

Honored with multiple awards, including the Golden Trezzini International Award for Best Executed Theatre Set Design (2024), the Golden Mask Award for Best Theatre Artist of Drama (2021), the Gold Medal at the Prague Quadrennial (2015), the Pro Helvetia Grant – Avignon Festival (2014), and the Breakthrough Award for Best Theatre Artist (2014).
